Ituna Center for Basque Economic Agreement and Fiscal Federalism Studies is going to participate in the next webinar organised by the World Bank and the University of Nevada to analyse the response of local governments to the COVID-19 pandemic. On the previous edition of this webinar, held on 8 October, the cases of Vietnam, Poland, Nepal and Switzerland were analysed.

This time it will be the turn for Brazilian, Indonesian, Nepalese and Basque cases. The session will lay out a set of “fiscal federalism” principles that apply to pandemics and draw lessons from experiences of developed and developing countries for improving pandemic response capacity.

Mikel Erkoreka, researcher from Ituna Center, will present the Basque case. Based on this case study, he will provide evidence on the strengths and weaknesses of fiscal decentralised or federal systems when dealing with global crises, such as the COVID-19.

The webinar, which will last two hours, will be held on February 25 (Thursday), from 17:30 to 19:30 (Basque Country time) (11:30 to 11:30, Washington DC time). The event can be followed by using the following link:
